Udhampur Administration Removes Illegal Roadside Sheds in Anti-Encroachment Drive

Udhampur, May 26 : Authorities carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Dhar Road near Mian Bagh, close to Air Force Road, removing several illegal tin sheds erected to sell goods on the roadside.

Naib Tehsildar Roun Maroof Khan said the encroachments had been a long-standing problem and prompted multiple complaints to the tehsildar’s office. “This is a highway and people used to gather here in the evening, which poses a risk of accidents,” he said.

Officials removed seven temporary sheds after issuing notices; five were taken down by the owners and two were demolished by the administration. Khan added that the Air Force and police flagged the site as sensitive because two sheds had CCTV cameras pointed at the road and the area hosts Air Force and other security installations.

The action follows a similar demolition drive on May 23 in Miran Sahib, where Jammu district authorities razed properties allegedly linked to drug smugglers amid an ongoing narcotics crackdown. Bulldozer action there was supported by a large police and administrative presence to maintain law and order.
