Jammu, Jul 20: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have detained two individuals under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their continued involvement in activities threatening public peace and communal harmony.
Mohd Tahir, originally from Achralla village in Reasi’s Mahore area and currently residing in Jammu’s Bhatindi locality, has been booked under PSA and shifted to district jail Kathua. According to the police, Tahir has a long record of criminal involvement and is named in several FIRs. Despite multiple arrests and ongoing court cases, he allegedly persisted in unlawful behavior, prompting authorities to take stricter preventive action under PSA after routine legal processes failed to curb his activities.
In a separate case, Hafizullah, a resident of Nilote-Assar village in Doda district, has also been detained under PSA and lodged in Bhaderwah jail. His detention was approved by the District Magistrate Doda based on a police dossier. The dossier cited that the individual’s recent actions—slaughtering a sacred animal and publicly displaying its remains—resulted in heightened communal tension and disrupted public order in the region.
The authorities stated that these measures have been taken to preserve peace and communal harmony. Police urged the public to uphold mutual respect for all religious sentiments and maintain social cohesion across communities.
