Bishnupur, Manipur, Apr 7: Two children—a five‑year‑old boy and a six‑month‑old girl—were killed and their mother injured in a bomb attack at their house in the Moirang Tronglaobi area of Bishnupur district early Tuesday, triggering angry protests by locals, police said.
The explosion occurred around 1 a.m. when a bomb was hurled by suspected militants into the family’s bedroom while the parents and children were asleep. Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh condemned the incident as a “barbaric act” and assured that those responsible would be identified and dealt with firmly under the law.
Enraged residents took to the streets later in the day, burning two oil tankers, a truck near a local petrol pump, tyres in front of Moirang Police Station, and a makeshift police outpost. Security forces have been deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
