Shopian, Dec 20: In a late-night operation, security forces arrested two individuals in the Heerpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district after recovering incriminating posters from their possession, official sources said on Saturday.
According to police sources, a team from Police Station Heerpora carried out a search operation in the village during the night hours following specific intelligence inputs. During the search, two local residents were apprehended, and several posters with suspicious content were recovered from their possession.
The seizure led to the registration of a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Police said that FIR No. 73/2025 has been lodged at Police Station Heerpora under Section 13 of the UAPA, and further investigations are currently in progress to ascertain the nature and purpose of the seized material.
The accused have been identified as Ahsan Ahmad Wagay, son of Mohammad Shafi Wagay, a resident of Yarikha in Kulgam district, and Rahil Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Amin Bhat, hailing from Lasio Bonpora, also in Kulgam. Both individuals were detained on the spot and subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
Police officials added that the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to curb unlawful activities and prevent the circulation of material that could disturb public order in the region. More arrests and recoveries are likely as investigations move forward.
