LONDON, OCT 7: Three Indian nationals rescued from a Turkish-owned cargo vessel following a Russian drone strike in the Black Sea are in stable condition, the Indian Embassy in Romania said.
The three Indians were rescued from the MV Royad Mammadov on Monday after the vessel came under attack in the Black Sea.
An Indian Embassy representative visited the three crew members on Tuesday. Two of them are staying at a hotel, while the third is receiving treatment at the County Hospital in Constanta.
“All three are in stable condition,” the Indian mission said in a post on X.
The embassy said it had assured the three Indians of all necessary assistance and support for their safe and early departure from Romania. Essential items, including mobile phones, were arranged through the shipping company’s local agent, while Indian food was organised through a local Indian restaurant.
The embassy representative also met Romanian police officials, the shipping company’s local representative and doctors treating the injured Indian national to coordinate further assistance.
The MV Royad Mammadov was attacked in the Black Sea earlier this week, reportedly killing at least two foreign seafarers and injuring several other crew members. The nationalities of those killed were not immediately known.
The Black Sea has remained a major area of disruption amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, with attacks affecting commercial vessels and port infrastructure.
The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday condemned the attack and expressed serious concern over attacks targeting commercial shipping and seafarers.
“The injured have been rescued by Romanian authorities and are receiving medical attention. The three Indian nationals, who were part of the crew of the ship, are safe. We thank Romanian authorities for their swift action in this incident,” the MEA said.
The ministry also reiterated India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy to bring an end to ongoing conflicts.
