Three bovine smuggling bids foiled; 25 animals rescued, two arrested in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, APR 14: In a significant crackdown against illegal bovine smuggling, Udhampur Police foiled three separate smuggling attempts and rescued a total of 25 animals being transported without valid permission.

Two accused persons were arrested in connection with the incidents, while further investigation is underway.

In the first case, acting on reliable information, a police team from Police Post Dudu intercepted an individual identified as Mohd Ayoub, a resident of Sarar Karpalt in Chenani.

He was found transporting five bovines in a cruel manner from Panchound via Jakhed towards the Kashmir Valley without any valid authorization.

The animals were rescued on the spot, and the accused was arrested. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Latti.

In another incident, a police party from Police Post Tikri, during routine naka checking, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number HR69C-4284. The vehicle was driven by Shah Nawaz Alam, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

Upon inspection, 20 bovines were found loaded inside the vehicle without valid permission. The animals were rescued, and the accused was taken into custody.

A case has been registered at Police Station Rehambal.

In the third case, a police team from PP Battal Ballian intercepted a truck (JK02AH-6352) at Industrial Gate, NH-44 Udhampur.

During checking, 11 bovine animals were found being transported illegally without proper documentation. All the animals were rescued, and a case has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.

Police stated that all the bovines were being transported in violation of legal provisions and in inhumane conditions.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curb such illegal activities and ensure strict enforcement of laws related to animal welfare.

Further investigation into all three cases is currently in progress.
