NAKHON RATCHASIMA (Thailand), Jan 14: A passenger train from Bangkok derailed after a crane collapsed onto the tracks in Thailand’s Sikhio district, killing at least 22 people and injuring over 30 others on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 230 km northeast of Bangkok in Nakhon Ratchasima province, on a train heading to Ubon Ratchathani province.
Local police chief Thatchapon Chinnawong confirmed: “Twenty-two people were killed and more than 30 were injured.” Nakhon Ratchasima’s public relations department reported four bodies recovered so far, with fire extinguished and rescue operations underway.
Live footage showed the brightly colored train on its side amid smoke, with rescue workers at the site.
