JAMMU, May 26: Security forces on Monday busted a suspected terrorist hideout and tightened their cordon as Operation Sheruwali entered its third day in the Dorimal–Gambhir Moghla area of Rajouri district, officials said.
A joint team of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched the operation on Saturday following specific intelligence about the presence of suspected militants in the dense forest. Contact was first made around 11:30 am on Saturday, the Army’s White Knight Corps said, and a brief exchange of fire followed.
Teams equipped with drones and sniffer dogs expanded searches into adjoining areas while additional troops were deployed to strengthen the cordon. During searches, forces found a hideout containing eatables, cold drinks, water bottles, pickles, clothes, bags and polythene covers — items officials said appeared to be personal belongings of the suspected terrorists. Blood stains were also recovered at the site, suggesting occupants had been present before the area was assaulted.
Preliminary reports indicate the likely movement of two to three militants in the area. Security agencies said searches and surveillance remain ongoing as they continue efforts to track down the suspects.
