New DelhiMar 8: The father of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar, beaten to death during Holi clashes in Uttam Nagar, has called for a CBI inquiry and questioned the Delhi police probe.
Violence erupted on March 4 night in the JJ cluster when an 11-year-old girl accidentally splashed a Muslim woman with a water balloon from a terrace. The woman objected, called her family, and a fight broke out between neighbors—leaving four injured. Tarun, studying digital marketing and his family’s breadwinner, succumbed the next morning.
Family says Tarun wasn’t at the initial scuffle; he’d been playing Holi with friends. On his way home, 8-10 attackers ambushed him in a lane with rods, sticks, and stones. “They smashed his head and dropped a heavy slab on his chest,” his father Memraj told. “He was our only support—we’re poor folks.”
Despite arrests, Memraj claims police haven’t shown proof. He appealed to PM Modi and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for justice and a CBI takeover. On Friday, he led a sit-in at Uttam Nagar station, alleging a lathi charge.
Protests raged—vehicles torched, mobs clashed. Cops deployed RAF, zoned the area for patrols, and urged both communities to stay calm, said DCP Kushal Pal Singh.
Delhi Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh visited the family Saturday.
