JAMMU: BJP National General Secretary, Rajya Sabha MP and Jammu & Kashmir In-Charge Tarun Chugh on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of innocent migrant workers in Kulgam, describing the attack as a “heinous act of terrorism” aimed at spreading fear among civilians and disturbing the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing grief over the loss of innocent lives, Chugh said the attack was another example of terrorists targeting unarmed civilians in an attempt to destabilize the region. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and said the nation stood united with them during this difficult time.
Reacting to remarks made by National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on the incident, Chugh criticized the veteran leader, alleging that his statements were inappropriate at a time when the focus should be on unequivocally condemning terrorism and supporting the victims’ families.
Chugh said that instead of questioning the terrorists and those allegedly backing them from across the border, Abdullah had attempted to create suspicion and confusion through his statements. According to the BJP leader, such remarks were irresponsible and diverted attention from the real perpetrators of the attack.
He further alleged that Pakistan-sponsored terrorist groups were behind the killing of innocent migrant workers and other civilians, claiming that such attacks were intended to spread fear, disrupt normal life and undermine the peace and development witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.
The BJP leader also alleged that statements which, in his view, shifted the narrative away from terrorism or questioned the security response indirectly benefited those involved in promoting violence. He claimed that such comments provided political cover to Pakistan-backed terrorist elements and their handlers.
Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to combating terrorism, Chugh said the Government and security forces were fully determined to identify and bring the perpetrators of the Kulgam attack to justice. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the security agencies and said every effort was being made to dismantle the terror ecosystem operating in the region.
Calling for political unity, Chugh urged all parties to rise above political differences and speak in one voice against terrorism. He said the fight against terrorism required collective resolve and stressed that any attempt to weaken public confidence or divert attention from the perpetrators would only serve the interests of forces seeking to disturb peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
