SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: National Conference chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq has questioned the role of bureaucracy in Jammu and Kashmir, saying a recent episode in the Legislative Assembly highlights the need for restoration of statehood.
Reacting to reports that a senior bureaucrat had written to Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather seeking to stop a resolution on statehood moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sadiq raised questions over the accountability of the administration.
In a post on X, Sadiq said the episode should be considered when discussing why Jammu and Kashmir needs statehood restored.
He questioned how senior bureaucrats could approach the Assembly Speaker regarding a resolution moved by the elected Chief Minister, particularly without the knowledge of the concerned minister.
Sadiq said the issue was not about any particular government or political party, but about determining who remains accountable to the people.
He maintained that the reported episode reinforces the National Conference’s position that Jammu and Kashmir should regain statehood.
