Leh, Jun 16: Indian Army, students, and residents of Chushul village came together for a large-scale cleanliness drive under the banner of Swachh Chushul Abhiyan on 14th of June. The initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and preserving the natural beauty of the region witnessed enthusiastic participation from all quarters.
The cleanliness drive was organized in Chushul and surrounding areas, including the ecologically significant Skok Lungpa Spring. A total of 80 students from Government High School Chushul and 35 local community members joined hands with personnel of the Indian Army to clear litter, collect waste, and spread awareness about the importance of hygiene and environmental preservation.
Participants were seen carrying placards, donning gloves, and equipped with cleaning tools as they undertook the task of tidying up public spaces, water bodies, and common community areas. The drive not only focused on waste collection but also on sensitizing the local population about waste segregation, responsible disposal, and reducing plastic usage.
The Indian Army, known for its close engagement with local communities in remote regions, played a key role in mobilizing support for the initiative.
The school principal of Govt High School Chushul expressed pride in the students’ active participation. “Our children are not just future leaders, but also caretakers of their homeland. Their involvement in such initiatives builds a strong foundation for responsible citizenship,” she said.
The Swachh Chushul Abhiyan concluded with a pledge by all participants to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and to continue contributing towards a greener, cleaner Ladakh.
