Leh, Jul 21: A delegation from the Sunni community Leh has strongly urged for the Delimitation of Hill Council Constituencies ahead of the upcoming LAHDC elections, citing the need for a more inclusive and representative electoral structure.
They emphasized the need for a more inclusive and representative electoral process that reflects the demographic realities of the region.
Led by Dr Abdul Qayoum, President of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam (AMI) Leh, the delegation met with Chairman, CEC LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, in the presence of BJP State President Tashi Gyalson Khachu. The group included AMI’s Women President, Youth President, senior community representatives, and executive members.
They held a detailed interaction with the CEC in the presence of BJP State President, Tashi Gyalson Khachu.
During the meeting, the delegation stressed that delimitation is essential to reflect demographic realities and ensure fair representation in the Hill Council. They proposed that a slight postponement of elections if necessary, would be acceptable to allow time for a transparent and just delimitation process.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum seeking the long-overdue inclusion of the Arghon community under Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, requesting the Council’s support to raise the issue at higher levels for social justice and equal rights.
They sought the Council’s intervention and support in addressing this issue at appropriate levels.
The community extended heartfelt gratitude to the CEC, the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their continued commitment to unity, inclusivity, and upliftment of all communities across Ladakh post the formation of UT-LADAKH.
