A total of 40 officers from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) completed the intensive training, marking a significant milestone in fostering cultural, linguistic, and regional understanding among India’s frontier security personnel.
The valedictory ceremony was attended by faculty members from both institutions, senior ITBP officials, and course participants. The event was graced by Dr. Akun Sabharwal, IPS, Inspector General (IG), ITBP, who delivered the valedictory address.
In his address, Dr. Sabharwal congratulated the officers for their successful completion of the program and emphasized the importance of Tibetology in strengthening India’s engagement with the trans-Himalayan cultural landscape. The six-week course, specially designed for ITBP officers, covered Tibetan language and script, Buddhist philosophy, art and iconography, Himalayan culture, and Indo-Tibetan relations. The collaborative effort between UoL and CIBS aimed to combine academic rigor with practical relevance, equipping participants with insights into the sociocultural fabric of the region they serve.
Faculty members commended the officers for their dedication and keen interest throughout the program. Certificates of completion were distributed to all participants during the ceremony.
