JAMMU JAN 20 : Army officers and personnel paid solemn tributes to Havildar Gajendra Singh on Tuesday, honoring the brave Special Forces commando who made the supreme sacrifice during a fierce counter-terrorism operation in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district.
The decorated soldier was martyred on the intervening night of January 18 and 19 while gallantly executing ahigh-risk counter-terror operation as part of the ongoing Operation Trashi-I in the challenging upper reaches of Kishtwar. Havildar Singh displayed exceptional courage and unwavering commitment to duty even in the face of extreme danger, embodying the finest traditions of the Indian Army’s elite Special Forces.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on X, the White Knight Corps expressed profound grief over the loss of the valiant soldier. “The #GOC, White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces, who made the supreme sacrifice while gallantly executing a Counter Terrorism operation in the Singpura area during the ongoing Operation TRASHI-I on the intervening night of 18-19 Jan 2026,” the post stated.
The Corps further honored the fallen hero’s extraordinary service, saying, “We honour his indomitable courage, valour and selfless devotion to duty and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this hour of profound grief.”
Havildar Gajendra Singh was part of a specialized team conducting anti-terror operations in the Singhpora-Chatroo belt when terrorists launched a sudden grenade attack from their concealed positions. The attack resulted in his martyrdom and left seven other soldiers injured, primarily from splinter wounds. Despite the ambush, security forces continued their relentless pursuit of the militants who retreated deeper into the dense forest areas.
The operation, which has now entered its third day, led to the discovery and destruction of a well-fortified terrorist hideout located at an altitude exceeding 12,000 feet. The hideout was stocked with substantial winter provisions, including food supplies, blankets, and cooking utensils—sufficient to sustain multiple terrorists through the harsh winter months in the remote mountainous terrain.
Havildar Gajendra Singh’s sacrifice came during a critical phase of counter-terrorism efforts in the Jammu region. His exemplary bravery and dedication to protecting the nation reflect the highest standards of military service. Special Forces commandos like Havildar Singh undergo rigorous training and are deployed on the most challenging and dangerous missions, often operating in hostile territory under extreme conditions.
Senior military leadership, including Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Bhim Sen Tuti and Inspector General of CRPF (Jammu) R Gopala Krishna Rao, have personally reached the operation site and are camping there to oversee the ongoing counter-terror efforts. The presence of top brass underscores the strategic importance of neutralizing the terrorist threat in the region, particularly ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
The comprehensive anti-terror operation continues with intensified efforts to track down the remaining terrorists believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Multiple teams comprising army personnel, police, and paramilitary forces are conducting extensive combing operations with support from advanced surveillance drones and trained sniffer dogs.
“The cordon has been further tightened with search operations expanded. Troops of the corps, along with Police and CRPF, remain deployed to dominate the area,” the White Knight Corps announced, demonstrating the security forces’ determination to eliminate the terrorist threat completely.
The challenging terrain, characterized by thick vegetation, steep slopes, and limited visibility, has complicated the operation. However, security forces remain resolute in their mission to ensure the safety and security of the region’s residents.
Havildar Gajendra Singh’s martyrdom is a stark reminder of the constant threats faced by security forces protecting the nation’s borders and maintaining peace in conflict-affected regions. His ultimate sacrifice will be remembered as a testament to the courage and dedication of India’s armed forces.
The entire nation stands in solidarity with Havildar Singh’s bereaved family during this difficult time, honoring his memory and the supreme sacrifice he made for the country. His legacy of valor and selfless service will continue to inspire future generations of soldiers who defend India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As Operation Trashi-I progresses, security forces remain committed to neutralizing terrorist networks and ensuring peaceful Republic Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir.
