NEW DELHI, FEB 17: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday that sovereign AI models, developed by 12 Indian organizations—including startups like Sarvam AI, Soket AI, Gnani AI, and IIT Bombay’s BharatGen consortium—have been unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit, matching global benchmarks set by ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini on key performance parameters.
Vaishnaw emphasized that these indigenously trained models on Indian datasets mark a pivotal step toward digital sovereignty, with AI Mission 2.0 set to roll out massive nationwide infrastructure for widespread public access, elevating India’s AI capabilities to unprecedented levels.
He revealed over Rs 20,000 crore in investor commitments slated for realization within 1-2 years, fueling compute power and innovation ecosystems, while the summit’s massive popularity—exceeding 3 lakh registrations—has led to overflowing sessions and long queues, reflecting extraordinary national excitement around AI’s transformative potential.
