Leh, Oct 07: The Meteorological Centre, Leh, has issued a weather forecast indicating continued snowfall across several high-altitude areas of Ladakh, including Zanskar, Nubra, Changthang, Siachen, and higher passes of Leh. The latest bulletin reported widespread rain and snow in these regions, while most parts of Zojila–Kargil remained partly cloudy.
According to the forecast, snowfall is likely to persist in Zanskar, Nubra, Changthang, and Siachen till late tonight. However, the Met Centre has predicted a gradual improvement in weather conditions from late evening onwards, bringing relief across Ladakh.
From October 8 to 20, the region is expected to experience fair to partly cloudy skies and warmer daytime temperatures, creating more favorable conditions for travel and outdoor activities.
Despite no weather warnings being issued, authorities have advised caution for travelers, especially along Zojila and Shinkula passes, where rain and snow may impact vehicular movement today. Residents and tourists have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel in high-altitude snowbound areas until conditions stabilize.
The Met Centre further assured that from tomorrow, weather will remain suitable for all outdoor activities, signaling a return to normalcy after days of intermittent snow and rain.
Images shared from Padum, Zanskar, show heavy accumulation of snow blanketing roads and rooftops, highlighting the early onset of winter-like conditions in the region. Locals have reported temporary disruptions in road connectivity and communication in some upper areas.
Emergency helplines have been activated, and in case of any weather-related distress, people have been advised to contact MET Centre Leh or dial 112. As winter approaches, this fresh spell of snowfall marks a seasonal transition for Ladakh—bringing scenic beauty but also logistical challenges in remote valleys like Zanskar and Nubra.
