Leh, Sept 11: “Breaking the stigma around mental health and fostering open conversations is vital to preventing suicide,” stated Dr. Tashi Tundup, Consultant Psychiatrist at SNM Hospital, while addressing a gathering on World Suicide Prevention Day at the hospital’s Conference Hall today.
The programme, held in line with this year’s global theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” brought together students and tutors from AMT School, who actively engaged in discussions, posed questions, and shared reflections during the session.
Dr. Tundup’s presentation focused on dispelling myths, identifying signs of emotional distress, and encouraging outreach for timely support. He also emphasized the availability of mental health resources, the role of families and schools in building empathetic environments, and the importance of equipping young people with resilience and coping skills.
The enthusiastic participation of students underscored their awareness and compassion toward those struggling with mental health challenges. Organisers said the event marked an effort to build a culture of understanding, timely intervention, and community support in addressing the issue of suicide.
