New Delhi, May 12 : Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, on Tuesday extended greetings to Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took oath as Assam Chief Minister for a second consecutive term.
“As your trusted friend, we will stand by Assam as always,” Wong said.
Sarma’s oath-taking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, among others.
Several diplomats, including US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, and leading industrialists, witnessed the grand function hosted at the Veterinary College Field, Khanapara, Guwahati.
“Big congratulations to our dear friend #himantabiswa. Your new term as chief minister will no doubt propel Assam to greater heights. As your trusted friend, we will stand by Assam as always,” Wong posted on X.
In his X post, US envoy Gor said that with Sarma’s leadership, “we will identify many more win-win scenarios for both of our nations”.
“Honoured to have been invited to Guwahati today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” Gor said in his post.
“The United States and Assam have many commercial ties, and with the CM’s leadership, we will identify many more win-win scenarios for both of our nations!” he added.
Tuesday’s oath-taking ceremony marked the formation of the third successive NDA government in Assam.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to Sarma and four legislators, who took the oath as ministers.
