LEH: A training programme on disaster preparedness, emergency response and the use of disaster response equipment was conducted in Leh for staff of the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), teachers and school students, with the objective of strengthening awareness and enhancing response capabilities during emergencies.
The programme brought together emergency management personnel, educators and young participants to equip them with practical knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to disaster situations. Officials said the initiative was aimed at promoting preparedness and improving community-level resilience across Ladakh.
Binu Samuel, Deputy Commandant of the 13th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), served as the resource person and delivered detailed sessions on disaster preparedness measures, emergency response protocols and the proper use of disaster response equipment. The training also featured practical demonstrations designed to familiarise participants with emergency procedures and response mechanisms.
Dr. Stanzin Passang, Project Manager, Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction–State Emergency Operations Centre (DMRRR-SEOC), UT Ladakh, attended the programme and underscored the importance of preparedness, awareness and community participation in disaster risk reduction efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Passang stressed the need to foster a culture of safety and resilience, noting that informed and prepared communities are better equipped to face emergencies and minimise risks.
The programme included interactive sessions and hands-School Safet on exercises, enabling participants to gain first-hand experience in handling emergency situations. Organisers said the training contributed to improving both the theoretical understanding and practical response skills of attendees.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote disaster readiness and strengthen institutional and community capacities, supporting the broader objective of building a safer and more resilient Ladakh.
