Focus on Cold-Water Fisheries and Vet Services
Leh, July 22: In his first official engagement after taking charge, Rudra Goud P.T., IAS, the newly appointed Administrative Secretary of Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries in the Union Territory of Ladakh, held a high-level review meeting in Leh on Monday. The session, conducted at the Conference Hall of the Chief Animal Husbandry Office, brought together top officials from the concerned departments to assess the progress of ongoing schemes and chart out future plans.
Dr. Mohammad Ismail, Director of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, and Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Director of Sheep Husbandry, were among the senior officials who attended the meeting, alongside sectoral heads and technical experts.
The discussions focused on the current status of major schemes, including the Special Development Package, District Capex Budget, and Centrally Sponsored Schemes. Department heads presented detailed PowerPoint briefings outlining achievements and challenges, especially in areas such as veterinary infrastructure, fodder supply, and fisheries promotion.
Deliberations also centered on service delivery gaps and the need for targeted planning in sectors critical to Ladakh’s rural economy. Cold-water fisheries, unique to the region, emerged as a topic of special interest, with officials highlighting their untapped potential.
Secretary Goud instructed all departments to submit detailed statistical reports on the implementation of their schemes. These reports, he noted, would help shape future planning and guide corrective actions where needed. He underscored the importance of setting clear physical and financial targets and using data as a tool for better performance. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks and a shared resolve to improve coordination and delivery across the livestock and fisheries sectors in Ladakh
