Srinagar, Jan 2: In a swift move to safeguard public safety, Anantnag district authorities in Jammu and Kashmir banned trekking, hiking, camping, and similar outdoor pursuits in Kokernag’s high-altitude forest zones Friday, citing escalating security threats.
The order stems from intelligence inputs by police and agencies highlighting dangers in Kokernag sub-division’s elevated and wooded terrains. Sub-divisional Magistrate Prince Kumar noted recent attempts by suspects to breach police checkpoints late at night, sparking grave concerns.
Under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, the prohibition targets Margan Top, Chauhar Nag, and Sinthan areas effective immediately. Unrestricted access deemed a direct risk to security.
