Leh, May 10 : A sub-divisional level meeting under the Gyan Bharatam Programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at preserving and documenting ancient manuscripts, was held at the DC Conference Hall in Khaltse.
The meeting was chaired by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Khaltse, Mohd Sharif, during which officials reviewed the progress achieved under the first phase of manuscript listing carried out across the sub-division.
During the deliberations, it was informed that major Buddhist monasteries in the region had been covered during the initial phase of the programme, leading to the documentation of a considerable number of manuscripts preserved in monastic institutions.
To further expand the preservation exercise, 25 new surveyors were appointed during the meeting for the next phase of the initiative. The newly appointed surveyors will undertake the listing and documentation of manuscripts preserved by individuals and families across various parts of the sub-division.
The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination among departments and ensuring systematic documentation of valuable historical and cultural records preserved in remote areas.
Among those present were Deputy Secretary, Cultural Academy and Nodal Officer, Tsewang Paljor; Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Khaltse, Nawang Namgail; Coordinator of Gyan Bharatam, Dr. Stanzin Mingur; besides teachers and other officials associated with the programme.
