NEW DELHI, Aug 5: Jammu and Kashmir BJP president and Member of Parliament Sat Sharma on Wednesday demanded legal action against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti over her remarks concerning the national flag, alleging that they amounted to disrespect towards the Tricolour.
Speaking to reporters, Sharma said the alleged disrespect shown to the national flag was a serious issue and called for appropriate legal action.
“Legal action should be taken. The government will decide on that. However, this issue is also linked to Mehbooba ji’s earlier statements on Article 370. She had once said that if Article 370 was removed, there would be no one left to shoulder the Tricolour,” Sharma said.
Questioning the PDP chief’s commitment to the national flag, the BJP leader said, “How can we expect such people to respect the Tricolour? How can we expect them to honour the national flag? For them, it may not matter, but disrespect towards the Tricolour is a serious matter.”
Sharma said the authorities should initiate whatever legal action is deemed appropriate in accordance with the law.
