Leh, Jan 14: The Ministry of Culture has opened a public exhibition titled “The Light and The Lotus – Relics of the Awakened One”, placing the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha on display at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex, near the main gate of the Qutub Golf Course in New Delhi.
The exhibition, inaugurated on January 3, 2026 by Prime Minister of India, is open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Officials said arrangements have been made to ensure adequate visitor facilities, crowd management and a secure environment for the general public throughout the exhibition period.
According to the Ministry, the display offers a rare opportunity to view the Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha, revered for their historical, archaeological and spiritual importance. The relics, associated with early Buddhist history, are expected to draw scholars, students, practitioners, domestic and international tourists, as well as members of the public interested in India’s civilisational and spiritual traditions.
The exhibition forms part of the government’s broader efforts to present India’s ancient heritage in accessible public spaces, allowing wider engagement with artefacts that have shaped religious and cultural thought across centuries. Curated panels and interpretive material accompanying the relics aim to provide historical context while maintaining the sanctity of the display.
Officials anticipate steady footfall over the coming days, particularly from academic circles and visitors with an interest in Buddhist studies and archaeology. The Ministry has reiterated that necessary logistical and safety measures are in place to facilitate a smooth visitor experience.
