Kyiv, Feb 8: A Russian airstrike hit a residential area in eastern Ukraine’s Kramatorsk on Sunday, killing one civilian and injuring two after igniting a fire in a nine-story apartment block, per Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
The attack follows President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s revelation that the US set a June deadline for Ukraine and Russia to finalize a peace deal, with the Trump administration poised to apply pressure if unmet. Zelenskyy noted upcoming trilateral talks in the US—likely Miami—after fruitless Abu Dhabi discussions, where Russia demands Ukrainian withdrawal from Donbas, a non-starter for Kyiv.
Russia also targeted energy infrastructure in Poltava overnight, continuing its “weaponizing winter” strategy against Ukraine’s power grid after nearly four years of war. Zelenskyy affirmed Ukraine’s participation in the next talks, stressing a clear timeline to end hostilities.
