RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Champions India’s Civilisational Oneness at Centenary Social Harmony Event in Gorakhpur

GORAKHPUR (UP), Feb 15: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat proclaimed India as the world’s beacon of goodwill and social harmony during a landmark ‘Samajik Sadbhav’ (social harmony) meeting organized by the RSS Goraksh province at Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium in Taramandal, marking the organization’s historic centenary year.

Addressing a diverse gathering of community representatives, Bhagwat emphasized that India’s enduring civilizational ethos thrives on profound interconnectedness and mutual belonging, starkly contrasting with transactional relationships prevalent in many nations. “In many countries, relationships are seen as transactions. In our country, human relationships are based on a sense of belonging,” he articulated, underscoring how this intrinsic bond fosters unity amid vast diversity in customs, attire, traditions, and lifestyles.

Bhagwat elaborated that Bharat, personified as the maternal figure, embodies a shared divine consciousness residing in every individual, transcending superficial differences. “We consider Bharat as our mother. The same divine consciousness resides in everyone. That bond keeps us united despite our distinct identities,” he stated, highlighting how this spiritual unity prevents divisions and positions India as a global exemplar of peaceful coexistence.

The RSS chief stressed that true social harmony stems from voluntary societal efforts rather than mere legal enforcement, urging proactive community engagement. Noting the Sangh’s completion of 100 years, he framed the milestone not as a celebratory event but as an opportunity for deep introspection and rededication to national service. Bhagwat advocated holding block-level social harmony meetings two to three times annually to fortify cohesion, calling on communities to prioritize the broader Hindu society’s welfare over narrow caste considerations.

“Society must act on its own. The Sangh will assist, but responsibility lies with society,” he asserted, while recalling India’s selfless tradition of aiding other nations during crises without expecting returns—be it disaster relief or humanitarian support. The event featured poignant testimonials from representatives of various communities, fostering dialogue on unity, followed by Bhagwat joining attendees for a traditional community meal that symbolized egalitarian brotherhood.

This gathering in Gorakhpur, a spiritually significant city associated with Sant Kabir and Guru Gorakhnath, reinforces the RSS’s longstanding vision of a culturally rooted, socially integrated India capable of global leadership through intrinsic harmony and selfless service.
