NEW DELHI, March 9: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly condemned the opposition’s disruptive actions in Lok Sabha on Monday, asserting that the government remains fully prepared for a debate on the West Asia crisis despite the morning’s uproar.
“I condemn opposition’s actions; we are always ready for debate,” Rijiju stated in Delhi, responding to the noisy protests that led to the House being adjourned till 3 PM. Opposition MPs had stormed the Well demanding discussion on the Iran-Israel escalation, including Israeli strikes on Tehran, Iran’s alleged attacks on UAE and Bahrain, and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s martyrdom—followed by his son Mojtaba’s ascension as Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
The comments underscore tensions in Parliament amid global oil prices surging past $119 per barrel due to Strait of Hormuz disruptions and attacks on key infrastructure like Bahrain’s desalination plant. Rijiju’s remarks align with India’s peace advocacy in West Asia, as reiterated by EAM, while domestic headlines feature J&K schools reopening, Mehbooba Mufti’s Iranian Embassy visit for stranded Kashmiri students, and celebrations of India’s 3rd T20 World Cup triumph.
