Leh, Mar 24: A five-day residential workshop on development-oriented videomaking and editing, titled ‘Beyond the Frame’, commenced for students of Mass Communication and Journalism at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College (EJMC), Leh, on Tuesday.
The workshop, organised by Charkha Development Communication Network, seeks to equip students with practical skills in documentary filmmaking, with a focus on socially relevant themes.
The programme was formally inaugurated as the bus carrying participating students was flagged off by Principal EJMC, Professor Stanzin Yangdol. In her address, she underlined the role of media as an instrument for social awareness and urged students to engage closely with ground realities.
The training module is structured to enable participants to explore subjects such as gender, development, and climate change through visual storytelling. It combines field-based learning with hands-on practice in shooting, scripting, and editing, allowing students to produce documentary content rooted in real-world contexts.
The workshop is being led by Manas Rastogi, a Director of Photography with over a decade of experience in digital media production. He has previously worked as Video Lead at Nykaa and contributed to campaigns for international brands including Coca-Cola, Samsung, Google, and Hilton Hotels. His involvement is expected to provide participants with practical exposure aligned with industry standards.
The organising team from Charkha Development Communication Network is headed by Chetna Verma, who, along with her colleagues, will mentor students throughout the duration of the programme.
Faculty members accompanying the students include Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Hajira Bano, and Assistant Professor Mohd Ali Khan.
The workshop is expected to offer a blend of theoretical understanding and field application, encouraging students to use visual media as a medium for development communication and public engagement.
