New Delhi, May 13: BJP president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reducing the number of vehicles in his cavalcade, saying the move reflects his commitment as the country’s “pradhan sevak” and will inspire people to conserve resources.
The prime minister has significantly reduced the size of his convoy days after appealing for austerity and urging citizens to curb the use of fuel-driven vehicles.
The move has prompted several BJP chief ministers to adopt similar measures and reduce the number of vehicles in their convoys.
Nabin also announced that he will reduce the number of vehicles in his convoy.
In a post on X, the BJP chief said Prime Minister Modi has once again demonstrated that he is the “true servant of the nation” by cutting down the number of vehicles in his convoy.
“When leadership itself sets an example, it becomes a mass movement,” he said.
Referring to global challenges and the need for conservation, he said resources must be used judiciously.
“Amid global challenges, proper utilisation of resources is extremely important. Taking inspiration from Modi ji’s initiative, I am also reducing the number of vehicles in my convoy and taking several other steps towards energy conservation,” he said.
Nabin also urged people to contribute towards national interest by ensuring prudent use of resources.
“Let us all together ensure prudent use of resources and contribute towards national interest,” he said.
A downsizing of the prime minister’s convoy was implemented during his recent domestic visits, official sources said.
Modi’s convoy size was cut in Gujarat and Assam, immediately after his speech in Hyderabad — during which he suggested an array of austerity measures.
