Reasi, Nov 3: District Police Reasi on Wednesday evening foiled a narcotics smuggling bid near Katra, recovering heroin and arresting two alleged peddlers after a naka at PCP Nomain intercepted a car on the Domail–Katra road.

Police said a sky-blue Toyota Etios (registration JK02AW 8999) with four occupants was stopped for checking around 7.20 pm. The men were identified as Ajay Sharma, son of Rajkumar Sharma, of Kun Darrorian, Katra, and Vinay Singh, son of Anil Singh, of Ward No. 9, Matyal, Katra. The two women travelling with them were identified as Sonia Dogra and Namita Dogra, daughters of Bodh Raj, residents of Ward No. 3, Katra.

During personal search, 5.77 grams of heroin (chitta) was allegedly recovered from Ajay Sharma and 5.45 grams from Vinay Singh. Both men were taken into custody on the spot, the vehicle was seized and a case FIR No. 325/2025 under Sections 8, 21, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra. The women were also questioned in connection with the suspected trafficking attempt.

The naka operation was led by SHO Katra Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the supervision of SDPO Katra Dr Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran. Police said further investigation is focused on identifying the source of the contraband, mapping the onward supply chain and exposing any wider network of peddlers operating in the Katra–Reasi belt.

Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Paramvir Singh, said the latest seizure is part of the district police’s sustained anti-narcotics drive and urged residents to share information about drug peddling in their neighbourhoods, assuring that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
