Amethi (UP): Congress’s Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma on Monday alleged that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Ram temple donation embezzlement case was “merely an eyewash” aimed at protecting senior leaders of the BJP, the RSS and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Talking to reporters in Amethi, Sharma said the Congress had no faith in the SIT investigation and claimed that the “double-engine government” was attempting to suppress facts and shield influential people allegedly involved in the case.
“If the investigation is conducted fairly, the truth will come out. Senior leaders of the VHP, BJP and RSS are involved, but efforts are being made to protect them,” he alleged.
Sharma said the registration of an FIR against eight people was not sufficient, alleging that those “behind the scenes” were being protected.
“The government should reveal who those people are. Congress will launch a nationwide public awareness campaign against this and expose the BJP’s real face before the people. Those who could not remain true to Lord Ram cannot remain true to the country,” he said.
The Congress MP also targeted the BJP-led government over unemployment, alleging that young people were struggling to find jobs while students were suffering due to repeated examination paper leaks.
He claimed that government schools were being shut and coaching centres were being targeted, adversely affecting students’ futures.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, Sharma alleged that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had initially stated in Parliament that no Indian soldier had been killed during the operation, adding that the government later acknowledged the deaths of six personnel.
“Their only job is to mislead the people by speaking falsehoods,” he alleged.
Sharma also said he would visit Ayodhya on Tuesday to offer prayers at the Ram temple.
