Rahul Gandhi to join Haryana Congress leader’s ‘Sadbhav Yatra’ in Gurugram

Chandigarh, May 7: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will join the ‘Sadbhav Yatra’ of Haryana Congress leader Brijendra Singh in Gurugram district on Friday.

Brijendra Singh announced the participation of the former Congress president in a post on X on Thursday.

“It is a matter of joy for us that Jananayak @RahulGandhi ji will join the ‘Sadbhav Yatra’ in Gurugram-Badshahpur tomorrow, thereby strengthening the @INCIndia campaign for brotherhood and harmony.

“All Congress workers, Congress leaders, and Sadbhav Yatra participants are cordially invited to Gurugram tomorrow to make this event grand,” Brijendra Singh wrote on X.

The ‘Sadbhav Yatra’ began from Danoda village in Narwana in Jind from October 5, 2025, and has covered over 80 of the 90 assembly segments in the state.

The foot march was started by Brijendra Singh, the son of Congress veteran Birender Singh, to highlight several national and regional issues.

Gandhi, who is the leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, will join the yatra late Friday afternoon and address a gathering.

Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala, Kumari Selja, Ajay Singh Yadav and Birender Singh joined the yatra earlier.

Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda described the yatra as Brijendra’s personal initiative and remarked that such programmes could be undertaken by any party leader to strengthen the organisation.

State Congress chief Rao Narender Singh on Thursday asked all party leaders to take part in Friday’s event.

Days before his Yatra began in October, Brijendra Singh, who narrowly lost the 2024 assembly polls from Jind’s Uchana Kalan, accused the ruling BJP of playing “divisive politics” and said that “sadbhav” (harmony) has come under stress over the past decade.

Brijendra Singh was a sitting MP from Hisar for the BJP when he resigned ahead of the 2024 general election and switched over to the Congress. He also alleged that the saffron party creates a wedge in society to achieve its political purpose.

The ‘padyatra’ will cover all 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana, covering between 2,600 km and 2,800 km in total.

Brijendra Singh earlier said that the yatra is inspired by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he took the party’s vision and values directly to the people of the country.

The yatra has highlighted issues like unemployment, poor law and order situation, agrarian distress, issues related to government employees and weakening of institutions “under the BJP-led Centre.”

The rally seeks to galvanise the Congress in the state after its third successive loss at the hustings in the October 2024 assembly polls.
