New Delhi, Mar 14: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of brazenly ignoring its 2021 pledge for statutory Minimum Support Price (MSP) at C2+50% for farmers, while hinting at sacrificing Indian agriculture to US trade deals.
In a hard-hitting Facebook post in Hindi, the Lok Sabha Opposition Leader recounted his recent parliamentary question on MSP implementation and whether US trade talks aim to dismantle procurement safeguards by slashing “non-trade barriers.”
“Why hasn’t the promised statutory MSP been rolled out? The government dodged, merely repeating old policies and pressuring states to drop MSP bonuses under ‘national priorities’,” Gandhi charged, slamming the evasive response.
He warned that ongoing US negotiations could erode MSP mechanisms, with the Centre stonewalling clarity. “Modi govt won’t honor farmer promises—it’s ready to trade away our fields for its interests,” he alleged.
