BALUSSERY (KERALA), Apr 1: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday quipped that he met Yamaraj — the Hindu god of death — on a bus in Balussery and that the deity “wasn’t particularly happy” to see him or other UDF leaders.
Speaking at a public event, Gandhi said the UDF’s Oommen Chandy Health Insurance Scheme, which promises ₹25 lakh health coverage per household, would effectively “put Yamaraj out of work,” adding with a laugh that they would “find him another job soon.”
“Our mission is simple: no family in Kerala should ever have to feel the financial burden of a medical crisis,” he said, stressing that the insurance cover is designed to ensure illness never robs a family of its dignity, savings, or future.
Gandhi reiterated that “healthcare is a right,” and asserted that the UDF is committed to making it a reality for every Keralite through the scheme.
