Leh, Jun 18: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Professor Saket Kushwaha, visited the Siachen Valley to review the functioning of an automatic weather station installed by the university in collaboration with the Indian Army.
Accompanied by Dr. Subrat Sharma, Dean of Research Studies, and researchers from the LAMA Project—Ms Rigzin Wangmo, Ms Jigmat Angmo, and Ms Sonam Angmo—the Vice Chancellor assessed the station’s operations. The system, developed under the Mountain Research Institute with support from the Ladakh UT Administration, has been set up to monitor weather patterns in one of the world’s highest and most demanding environments.
The purpose of the visit was to ensure that the station is operating effectively and to explore how its data could be used to support planning and management in high-altitude regions. Professor Kushwaha commended the research team’s work and encouraged the continued use of technology in advancing scientific understanding in remote areas.
During his time in the valley, Professor Kushwaha also visited the Siachen War Memorial, where he paid tribute to the soldiers posted on the glacier, acknowledging their service and commitment to the nation.
