Srinagar, Jul 25: A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable sustained injuries after his service rifle accidentally discharged at the residence of former MLA Mohammad Ashraf in the Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
The injured officer, identified as Head Constable Mehraj-ud-Din, was reportedly cleaning his rifle when the firearm went off, resulting in a gunshot wound to his leg. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred while Mehraj-ud-Din was on duty at the former legislator’s residence. Authorities have confirmed the injury was accidental and no foul play is suspected at this stage.
Police officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the mishap, and further details are expected soon.
