Samba, Aug 20: In a major crackdown on the flow of illegal weapons, Samba Police have arrested a Central University student from Bihar for allegedly running an arms supply chain to criminals in Jammu. Another accused from Vijaypur has also been apprehended, with multiple weapons recovered during the ongoing investigation.
SSP Samba, Virinder Manhas, said the case stems from FIR No. 71/2025 registered under Sections 3/7/25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Vijaypur.
On July 11, police arrested Kaif Ahmed, son of Shami Ahmed, a resident of Barharia in Bihar’s Siwan district and a student of Central University Jammu (Rahya campus). Ahmed was allegedly ferrying pistols and country-made firearms from Bihar and selling them to local offenders. A country-made pistol was seized from him at the time of arrest.
The trail widened when police on August 8 nabbed Balwinder Singh alias Goru Jatt, son of Swarn Singh of Ranjari in Vijaypur tehsil. His disclosures led to the recovery of another country-made pistol from Rahya on August 17, followed by the seizure of a revolver yesterday from his native village Ranjari.
Police sources said the chain of recoveries points towards a larger racket that is arming criminal elements in the region. Investigators are now tracking the source of weapons and possible links to other operatives, with further arrests not ruled out.
