JAMMU, May 15 : Police have registered an FIR against a social media page for allegedly sharing provocative and inflammatory content linked to a sensitive issue in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials, the case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation has been launched.
Police said the Instagram page ‘Udhampur Awaaz’ allegedly uploaded and circulated objectionable videos and posts that had the potential to disturb public peace, communal harmony and law and order in the area.
Officials added that the content continued to circulate despite an earlier advisory issued by Udhampur Police, warning people against sharing or forwarding unverified, misleading or provocative material on social media.
The advisory had cautioned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the directions under relevant legal provisions.
Police have once again urged social media users and online platforms to avoid spreading rumours and rely only on official and verified information, officials said.
