New Delhi, June 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the PM SVANidhi scheme has significantly improved the lives of street vendors by providing collateral-free loans, financial inclusion, and new opportunities for economic growth.
Marking six years of the scheme, the Prime Minister said PM SVANidhi represents “trust, dignity, and empowerment” for street vendors across the country. In a post on X, he extended his best wishes to beneficiaries and praised their contribution to strengthening the economy.
Launched in June 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme was introduced to support street vendors affected by the lockdown through affordable working capital loans. It is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Department of Financial Services.
According to official data, over 1.12 crore collateral-free loans worth more than ₹17,800 crore have been disbursed since the scheme’s inception. The programme has benefited over 75.5 lakh street vendors, enabling access to formal credit, digital payments, and social security benefits.
