New Delhi, Jan 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation on Friday with Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodríguez, during which both leaders agreed to deepen and expand bilateral ties and strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors in the years ahead.
In a statement after the call, Modi said the two sides discussed ways to take India–Venezuela relations to “new heights,” including in trade, investment, energy and people‑to‑people links. The discussion comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the region following recent US actions in Venezuela, where Rodríguez assumed the role of acting president after the detention of Nicolás Maduro.
India has maintained that its engagement with Venezuela will be guided by principles of sovereignty, non‑interference and respect for international law, while also safeguarding the interests of Indian nationals in the country
