KOCHI, Mar 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Centre’s renaming of Kerala to Keralam a “joyful moment” for Malayali brothers, speaking at the golden jubilee of Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha, a group championing the fishing community’s welfare.
Modi landed in Kochi around 11:30 am, helicoptered to the naval base, then headed to Marine Drive for the event—his first stop before the BJP-led NDA’s election convention in poll-bound Kerala. He praised fishermen’s heroism during the 2018 floods and spotlighted the Sabha’s 50-year fight for their rights.
The PM highlighted Centre schemes like fitting 4,500+ satellite transponders on boats for sea safety, underscoring ongoing support to empower the vital coastal workforce.
