Budgam, Nov 07: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday reaffirmed that the alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains intact, even as he took sharp aim at the PDP’s governance record during a public address in Budgam.
Speaking to a large gathering, Abdullah turned the spotlight on electricity usage and billing practices, stressing that power consumption should be measured only where meters are installed. “If a meter is unnecessary, it should not be used,” he said, adding that billing would reflect actual usage rather than estimates.
Reiterating his government’s promise of 200 free electricity units to households, Abdullah urged citizens not to be “misled by the PDP’s political tactics.” He alleged that the PDP government had installed meters in government offices but failed to extend similar benefits to ordinary consumers.
Accusing the PDP of neglecting public welfare, Abdullah said his administration had introduced support measures for economically weaker sections. “Our aim is to ensure relief for the poor, not exploitation in the name of governance,” he asserted.
He further accused PDP leaders of misleading the public and “conveniently forgetting their past mistakes,” while forming alliances with the BJP for political advantage. In contrast, Abdullah said, the National Conference (NC) government focused on public welfare and stability.
Concluding his speech, the Chief Minister urged voters to make an informed choice in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that development, employment opportunities for youth, and fair power billing would shape the state’s future. “The people’s decision will define the direction of governance for the next four years,” he said.
