New Delhi, Apr 16 : A three-day special sitting of Parliament’s extended Budget session began today, focusing on Constitutional amendments to implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
The government introduced three amendment Bills to operationalize the 2023 legislation, which reserves 33% seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
Earlier this week, MPs received the Constitution (131 Amendment) Bill, 2026—linked to the Women Reservation Bill—proposing to expand Lok Sabha seats to 850, including from States and Union Territories. It caps directly elected State constituencies at 815 members, with up to 35 for UTs, as determined by Parliament.
