NEW DELHI DEC 24 : The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a stern advisory on Wednesday cautioning Members of Parliament against using sophisticated digital recording devices within the Parliament complex, citing serious concerns over privacy breaches and potential violations of parliamentary privileges. The directive specifically targets advanced gadgets including smart spectacles, pen cameras, and smartwatches that have become widely accessible in recent times.
An official Lok Sabha bulletin reminded lawmakers that numerous advanced surveillance devices have proliferated across the country and are now readily available in the market. The Secretariat expressed apprehension that some of these technologically sophisticated gadgets could be exploited in ways that compromise the privacy of members and breach the sacrosanct parliamentary privileges that protect legislative proceedings and discussions.
The parliamentary administration has requested all members to completely refrain from utilizing such devices in any manner that could jeopardize security protocols, parliamentary privileges, or the personal privacy of fellow legislators anywhere within the Parliament Estate premises. The advisory emphasizes that this prohibition extends to all areas of the parliamentary complex, not just the chambers where legislative business is conducted.
The warning comes amid growing concerns about technological surveillance capabilities and the need to maintain the confidentiality and sanctity of parliamentary proceedings, ensuring that sensitive discussions and deliberations remain protected from unauthorized recording or monitoring.
