Srinagar, July 19: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday cut short his visit to New Delhi and left for Jammu to review the administration’s preparedness in view of the worsening weather conditions across parts of the Jammu division.
The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued weather warnings for several districts, prompting the Chief Minister to personally oversee relief and response measures.
In a post on X, Omar Abdullah said the evolving weather situation required his immediate presence in Jammu.
“Keeping in view the weather advisory issued by the Meteorological Department and the rapidly evolving situation in parts of Jammu Division, I have decided to cut short my Delhi visit and proceed to Jammu this afternoon to personally oversee the situation,” he said.
Despite leaving Delhi, the Chief Minister clarified that the scheduled protest demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood would go ahead as planned. He said the demonstration would be led by JKNC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, reaffirming the party’s commitment to its statehood campaign.
The Chief Minister’s visit comes as heavy rainfall continues to affect several districts in the Jammu region, with the administration on high alert to deal with any weather-related emergencies.
