Bengaluru, Aug 1: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday condemned the terror attack in Kulgam district that killed two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh, saying no amount of compensation can make up for the loss suffered by their families.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Abdullah said the victims had come to Jammu and Kashmir to earn an honest livelihood but were targeted by terrorists.
“They had come to Kashmir to work and earn a living. These innocent people were attacked in such a brutal manner. The incident deserves the strongest condemnation,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the pain and suffering of the bereaved families cannot be erased by financial assistance. “No amount of money can repair the damage caused or lessen their grief. However, this is a small effort from our side to provide some support during this difficult time,” he added.
Abdullah announced an ex-gratia relief of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the two victims, in addition to the ₹6 lakh immediate assistance already announced by the district administration.
The two labourers, Deepak Ratre (24) and Bhupendra Bhaina (28), were killed in a terrorist attack at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening.
