Northern Army Commander Conducts Security Review in Nagrota, Srinagar

JAMMU, March 11: In a significant move amid ongoing security challenges in Jammu & Kashmir, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Northern Command (#ArmyCdrNC), undertook a comprehensive visit to Srinagar and Nagrota on Wednesday. The tour focused on a detailed assessment of the operational preparedness and security landscape in the region, reflecting the Indian Army’s heightened vigilance in this geopolitically sensitive zone.

Accompanied by senior officers, Gen Sharma held in-depth deliberations with formation commanders at key military installations. The discussions centered on the rapidly evolving security dynamics, including cross-border threats, terrorism, and internal stability concerns. Sources familiar with the proceedings highlighted the Army Commander’s emphasis on multi-layered strategies to enhance capabilities across domains.

A core agenda was the reinforcement of multi-domain surveillance mechanisms, integrating advanced technologies such as drones, satellite imagery, and AI-driven analytics. The review stressed seamless real-time intelligence fusion from multiple sources—ground troops, aerial reconnaissance, and allied agencies—to enable swift decision-making.

“Unrelenting vigil” emerged as a recurring theme, with directives to maintain 24/7 monitoring along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border. This comes at a time when intermittent ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts persist, despite diplomatic efforts for stability post-Article 370 abrogation in 2019.

Gen Sharma underscored the need for synergized operations involving the Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and intelligence outfits. The goal: to foster an environment conducive to peace, stability, and normalcy, allowing civilians to resume daily life without fear.

Northern Command (#NorthernCommand) reiterated its “resolute commitment” to safeguarding the lives and well-being of J&K’s people. Officials noted that operational readiness (#OperationalReadiness) remains at peak levels, with rigorous training exercises, modern equipment induction, and welfare initiatives for troops and locals.

The visits to Srinagar—the summer capital and hub of 15 Corps—and Nagrota, headquarters of the Dhruva Command (responsible for Jammu operations), signal a proactive response to dynamic threats. Recent intelligence inputs point to Pakistan-backed terror groups attempting to revive militancy, particularly in the Pir Panjal range and Rajouri-Poonch sectors.

Gen Sharma’s tour aligns with broader national security priorities under the Centre’s J&K policy, which prioritizes development alongside security. It follows high-level meetings in Delhi, where tri-services synergy and border infrastructure upgrades were discussed.

Military analysts view this as a testament to the Army’s adaptive posture. “In an era of hybrid threats, such reviews ensure the Northern Command stays ahead, blending technology with human intelligence,” said a retired officer tracking J&K developments.

Northern Command, overseeing operations from Ladakh to J&K, has been pivotal in operations like surgical strikes and counter-insurgency drives. Its mandate extends to humanitarian assistance during natural disasters, reinforcing civil-military bonds.

The Indian Army continues to balance iron-fist deterrence with velvet-glove outreach, exemplified by recent sports events and medical camps in the Valley. As Gen Sharma wrapped up the review, the message was clear: J&K’s security apparatus stands fortified against any adversity (#Srinagar #Nagrota #JammuKashmir).
