LEH: The National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR) on Wednesday organised a Common Yoga Protocol session at its Sabu Thang campus as part of the pre-campaign activities leading up to World Environment Day 2026 under the Mission LiFE initiative.
The programme, themed “Linking Yoga Practice to Mindful and Low-Consumption Living”, brought together staff members and students of the institute and focused on promoting sustainable lifestyles, environmental responsibility and holistic well-being through the practice of yoga.
Officials said the session was designed to encourage greater awareness about the relationship between personal well-being and environmentally conscious living, in line with the objectives of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
Participants performed a series of yoga asanas and breathing exercises under the guidance of trained yoga instructor Gopal Sharma. The session highlighted the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and mindful living practices that support environmental sustainability.
The programme also underscored the importance of adopting responsible consumption habits and integrating environmentally conscious choices into daily life. Organisers noted that yoga can serve as an effective medium for cultivating awareness, discipline and a balanced lifestyle.
Staff members attended the event in white yoga T-shirts, while students actively participated in the exercises and related activities. Their participation reflected a shared commitment towards healthy living and environmentally responsible practices ahead of the forthcoming World Environment Day celebrations.
The event formed part of NISR’s broader efforts to promote awareness about sustainable living and environmental stewardship through educational and wellness-based initiatives.
World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 and serves as a platform to encourage public participation in environmental protection and sustainable development efforts.
