NEW DELHI, March 3: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has approached China for judicial assistance to track down a GoPro Hero 12 Black camera—serial no. C3501325471706—linked to the brutal April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 tourist lives.
A special Jammu court greenlit the Letter Rogatory (LR) on March 2, following Ministry of Home Affairs approval, after GoPro BV revealed the device was supplied to China’s AE Group International Limited and first activated in Dongguan on January 30, 2024. Investigators believe the camera holds vital clues on the terrorists’ pre-attack reconnaissance and movements in Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The attack, the deadliest on civilians in the region in nearly two decades, saw Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy The Resistance Front (TRF) open fire on picnickers in Baisaran meadow—known as Kashmir’s ‘mini Switzerland’—killing 26, including a Nepali national. With India and China lacking a direct mutual legal aid treaty, the NIA is invoking the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) to secure purchaser details, end-user records, and supply chain evidence from Chinese authorities.
